Lack of investment in trained IT staff blamed for NHS cyber attack
We were asked by the Chartered Institute for IT to help them launch a hard-hitting report into a massive cyber-attack on the NHS. Almost 50 trusts were affected by the Wannacry virus that caused chaos across the health service. In the months after the attack, the Institute carried out a major piece of research in conjunction with high profile partners like BT and the Patients Association to establish exactly what caused the computers to crash, and more importantly, what can be done to stop it happening again.
We used our extensive media contacts to line up a series of radio and TV interviews including Sky News TV, Sky News Radio and BBC local radio stations. In all we reached millions of people across the UK, and we were able to deliver the Chartered Institute’s key messages. The story featured prominently across all the outlets we secured, and on Sky our interview was repeated across the day.
