Veterans ‘confused’ by vast number of military charities offering help

The Royal British Legion entrusted us with a hugely important story about the establishment of a new helpline for ex-forces personnel. The Veterans Gateway, which has taken years to establish, provides a single point of contact for veterans after they leave the armed forces, a service that’s desperately needed.

The challenge was to prove through research what we already knew anecdotally; veterans can be confused by the sheer number of military charities offering help. We commissioned research that revealed nearly half of veterans were unsure where to turn for assistance. That gave the story real substance, and helped us to land national TV outlets, and BBC radio stations across the UK.

Highlights included interviews on Good Morning Britain, BBC Breakfast TV, Sky News and Forces TV. We also secured GNS that enabled us to reach 19 BBC local stations across the UK. In all the Royal British Legion’s message reached more than eight million people, and helped them target the veteran community.
